President Yoweri Museveni has said he will embark on some of the unfulfilled pledges he made in the last presidential elections once re-elected.

Mr Museveni was nominated as a presidential candidate for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party ticket, ahead of the February General Election.

He was proposed by Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda and seconded by State Minister for Youth and Children Evelyn Anite for nomination.

"I’m here because the party fronted me. After the liberation struggle, recovery phase and building foundation, Uganda is ready for take-off. NRM will stick to prioritisation in development planning to address Uganda's challenges,” he said.

Mr Museveni thereafter headed to Kololo Grounds in Kampala to launch his presidential campaigns.

Former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi was next in queue for nomination at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, as the newly formed GoForward party presidential flagbearer.

Mr Mbabazi was nominated by Kitgum woman MP Beatrice Anywar (FDC member) and Kween county MP Chemswet Abdi (NRM member).

“I’m happy that I’m now officially a presidential candidate for the 2016 elections. From today onwards, Uganda will be taken to a different level in terms of politics and the way we run campaigns. Our primary mission is to bring about change,” he said after his nomination.

“I’m also happy that I have been nominated after Mr Museveni. This is how things will be. Our people are yearning for change and I don't think anything will stop it,” noted Mr Mbabazi attracting applause from the crowd.

Mr Mbabazi launched his campaigns at the Nakivubo stadium in Kampala.

Former Makerere University VC Prof Venansius Baryamureeba (Independent) was next in line for nomination.
