Elisha Kiprop and Josephine Chepkoech won the men and women's 42km races in the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon respectively on Sunday.

Kiprop finished in two hours and 17 minutes and was followed by Julius Kiprono and Patrick Cheruiyot. Chepkoech finished in two hours and 35 minutes, ahead of Cynthia Jerop and Joy Kemuma.

Kiprop, who finished in the second place in 2014, also participated in the marathon in 2010 and 2011, with a fifth place finish in the latter.

Chepkoech said that was her first marathon and that she had been participating in road races and 10km races.

"I am very happy. I thank God for helping me win the race. The weather was good," she said.

Valerie Aiyabei won the women's 21km race, while Mathew Kiprotich won the men's competition.
