Tanzania pushes on with elections amid Chadema ban fallout

Official preparations for Tanzania’s upcoming general election are steadily gathering pace despite rising tensions across the political space caused by the spectacular fallout between main opposition party Chadema and the authorities over electoral reforms.

And this past week, the prevailing edgy public mood took on a new dimension when a prominent Catholic church leader known to be a fierce supporter of Chadema’s reforms crusade was assaulted and badly hurt by unknown assailants in Dar es Salaam.
