A tiff between Jubbaland state forces and Somalia’s national army in Gedo region has roped in Ethiopia and Kenya, threatening to cause tripartite tensions.

On August 8, the three-day ultimatum Ethiopian troops issued to Somali federal forces, who have been fighting Jubbaland forces, to leave Gedo region of Jubbaland State expired. The warning was meant to protest stationing of troops too close to their shared border, but it has been interpreted to mean taking sides with Jubbaland state forces.
