Currency, fuel, incomes test Museveni’s $500b economy ambition

Uganda is targeting a $500 billion economy by 2040, with industrialisation, value addition and technological innovation at the centre of its next phase of economic transformation.

But, as the country marked 64 years of independence on Friday, currency depreciation, rising fuel prices and persistent gaps in household incomes underscored the challenges of translating economic growth into broad-based prosperity.
