Last week, when Egypt, Somalia, Sudan and Eritrea formalised a joint stance on governance of the Red Sea, Ethiopia responded with unusual sharpness, as it entered a new phase of conflict with Eritrea.
All of these countries have a stake in both the Nile and the Red Sea. In their statement, Egypt, Somalia, Sudan and Eritrea did not name Ethiopia. However, they expressed opposition to unilateral projects on the Nile and called for respect for territorial sovereignty and the security of the Red Sea.
