The tensions involving the United States, Israel and Iran may be fuelling global uncertainty, but for Africa’s 1.3-billion-person market, the fallout presents a rare opportunity to accelerate intra-African trade and reduce dependence on external markets.

The African Export–Import Bank (Afreximbank) says concerns over disrupted supply chains following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz have, in fact, strengthened Africa’s resolve to trade more with itself, offering a potential shield against similar disruptions in future.
