The hearing of a case in which Tanzanian civil rights and media lobbies want the country’s digital law declared unconstitutional took off last week at the East African Court of Justice (EACJ), with the groups challenging the legality of key provisions of Tanzania’s online content regulations.

The rights organisations argue that the regulations enacted under the Electronic and Postal Communications Act (Epoca), infringe fundamental freedoms and contravene the East African Community (EAC) Treaty.
