Tanzania has won the bid to host a proposed regional maritime university, a key pillar of a broader African strategy to train seafarers, expand shipping capacity and reduce dependence on foreign maritime firms.
Ministers from more than 20 countries meeting under the Maritime Organisation for Eastern, Southern and Northern Africa (Moesna) agreed to establish the Maritime University of Eastern, Southern and Northern Africa (Muesna) in Tanzania, alongside plans for a regional shipping network and a maritime cabotage framework.
