Sudan’s proposed national dialogue is facing early political divisions, with opponents warning that the initiative could consolidate military rule rather than restore a civilian-led government.
The initiative, led by Sudan’s military leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, aims to bring Sudanese political forces and civil society groups into consultations on the country’s future. On Thursday last week, Burhan signalled to Washington that he was ready for the peace deal, suggesting there could be room for a ceasefire he had spent months stalling.
