Gender-based violence in DRC is increasing, UN says

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (Ocha) says it is working with other humanitarian agencies to help mitigate and respond to increasing incidents of gender-based violence in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The UN Deputy Humanitarian Coordinator for the DRC Suzanna Tkalec said at a briefing on Monday in Washington DC, US that women and girls in DRC provinces of North Kivu, South Kivu and Ituri continue to be exposed to alarming rates of gender-based violence due to the resurgence of violence between militant groups and government forces.
