Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga’s political journey has been one of firsts. She was the first woman to establish a law firm in Uganda in 1979, the first woman MP for Kamuli District, and, in 2011, the first woman to be elected Speaker of Parliament.

For over three decades, she has been a dominant force in Ugandan politics. But, in a dramatic turn during the four-day National Resistance Movement (NRM) delegates’ conference at Kololo, Kampala, Kadaga’s political candle flickered under the spotlight of internal party power dynamics.
