Uganda produces more coffee than any of its East African neighbours, but it is still trying to sell the story behind the beans. Now tourism officials and industry players want to turn the country’s farms, processing sites and tasting rooms into travel products that keep visitors spending more.
At the Coffee and Cocoa Expo this week, the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) pitched coffee tourism as a product Uganda must develop quickly, taking cue from Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania who have increasingly woven coffee into their visitor circuits.
