Booming global demand for Africa’s critical minerals should signal a major industrialisation opportunity for the continent, experts say, urging governments to shift policy towards local utilisation, processing and value addition.

With Africa holding about 30 per cent of the world’s critical energy transition mineral reserves, leaders and policymakers are urging Southern African nations, where much of the continent’s mineral wealth is concentrated, to move beyond raw mineral exports and invest in local processing, manufacturing and value addition to capture greater economic benefits from the growing demand.
