Activists demand new review of Congo, Chinese firms mining contracts

Almost a year after President Félix Tshisekedi renegotiated a mining contract between Chinese companies and the Congolese state, a new study shows that the government may, in fact, be losing more through tax exemptions granted to the firms.
The ‘Congo is not for sale’ coalition (CNPAV) voiced its concerns this week, revealing an imbalance in rider five to the Sino-Congolese Convention, signed on March 14, 2024 between the DRC and the group of Chinese companies.
