Uganda’s Internal Affairs Minister General Aronda Nyakairima has died of suspected heart attack.

According to Uganda’s government spokesman Ofwono Opondo, General Aronda passed away in Dubai, while on transit from South Korea.

“We have confirmed that General Aronda has died of heart attack while on transit in Dubai from South Korea,” Mr Ofwono tweeted.

Before his appointment in 2013, General Aronda had served as Uganda's army chief from 2003 to 2013.

Mr Ofwono added that Internal affairs State minister James Baba and Permanent Secretary Dr Stephen Kagoda were due to hold a meeting Saturday morning at Kololo over the untimely death.
