From comedy to music, and dance, Arthur Nkusi has taken entertainment industry by storm if his recent show dubbed “Arthur Amplified,” is anything to go by.

The 24-year-old’s journey to comedy kicked off in 2004 when he joined Mashirika Performing Arts, a theatre company, where he honed his skills in comedy, music, and dance. Through this platform, his career flourished.

At 14, Nkusi was featured in Shooting Dogs, a film directed by Michael Caton-Jones. He would later make special appearances in Shake Hands With the Devil and The Missing Pillar films.

In 2011, with colleagues Michael Sengazi and Herve Kimenyi, he co-founded the Comedy Knights, a group which introduced stand-up comedy in Rwanda’s entertainment scene.

Nkusi has secured advertising and master of ceremony deals with a number of Rwandan companies, among them MTN Rwanda. He is serving as MTN brand Ambassador.

“In daily life, I don’t do comedy; I crack jokes when I am with friends because I hold other careers and activities too,” Nkusi said.

In 2012, he worked for Kfm radio before joining Kiss FM this year.

Nkusi was among the first two Rwandan contestants who took part in the Big Brother Africa last year, though he was evicted after four weeks stay.

His performances are centred on social issues such as pastors’ ways of preaching, Rwandan musicians and comparison of urban and rural lifestyles.

His recent live performance of Papa Wemba’s song, being backed up by Sauti band and vocalists brought a new leash to his comedy setting, backing up his lead performance in Secret lover, a reggae song he earlier recorded with group members in 2013.

For the first time, through moments that thrilled revellers included six minutes intercept, Nkusi together with Mashirika Creative Arts’ Elianne Umuhire performed a contemporary dance. This left no doubt for his long membership in Mashirika, where he is currently an instructor.

At Kigali Serena Hotel’s ballroom entrance area, close to 25 art pieces were displayed by the comedian to welcome guests. These are pictures of art crafts, and theatre performances.

He refers to this as an abstract photography. He said he will be venturing into other arts, among them culture, creative arts and entertainment.

This year, he hosted Luis, his BBA Hotshots former housemate, guest artistes who included Zambia’s Roberto of Amarula fame, Uganda’s Ray Signature and musicians Jody Phibi, Two 4 Real and Safi Madiba to entertain his audience, a twist he believes bridges arts and careers.

Nkusi said he was inspired by his father Kennedy Mazimpaka, who is also an actor and a film director.
