Meddy vividly remembers his Sunday school days because that is where his music career took shape. The singer has since become a household name in the music industry.

The 24-year-old Meddy, whose real name is Ngabo Medard Jobert, lives in the United States.

He discovered his love and talent for music at Senior Three level while singing in a choir called ‘Justified’ of Zion Temple.

Talking to Rwanda Today after the release of his latest song on January 27, Meddy spoke of his gratitude to his Sunday school teachers for contributing to his music career and his faith. “I started to love music when I was in Sunday school.”

His new gospel song recorded in English is called Holy Spirit. His past gospel track was Ungirira Ubuntu, recorded in 2009 before he left for the United States.

“My main objective in recording gospel music is to urge people to turn away from evil and remind them that God is their Father,” said Meddy.

Meddy was born in Bujumbura, Burundi to Sindayihebura Alphonse (father), and Cyabukombe Alphonsine (mother).

The family later returned to Rwanda, which is where Meddy attended his lower and high school levels.

Meddy was in the same choir as The Ben and Producer Lick Lick who also excelled in music. Though the trio separated for a while they later met and collaborated again producing various gospel songs.

The Ben and Meddy, who are loved by many music lovers, left the country two years ago.

They said their stay in the US made them realise how hard they need to work in order to grow their music career.

They promised to return to Rwanda later this year. Different local organisations, including telecommunication companies, are in negotiations with the two singers about hosting concerts when they arrive in the country.
