Kenyan protesters participate in a demonstration marking the first anniversary of the 2024 anti-government protests, which drew widespread condemnation over the use of force by security agencies, in Nairobi, Kenya, on June 25, 2025.
During the historic June 25, 2024 Gen-Z rebellion, 63 youth were executed in the streets. Many were abducted and tortured. Some of the abducted turned up dead, dumped in fields or quarries. Others were simply disappeared.
The state, it seemed, had declared war on its own children. In early June this year, Albert Ojwang, a youthful critic of the government, was tortured to death in a police cell. In protests calling for justice for Ojwang, another youth hawking masks in the streets was shot in the head at point blank range. He has since died in hospital.
