Kenyan Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi delivered his inaugural Budget speech in Parliament Wednesday during a session marred by street protests over the death of a young high school teacher in police custody.

It was the country’s first Budget speech following the wave of the youth-led anti-tax protests that erupted in the country between June and July last year, forcing President William Ruto to withdraw the 2024 Finance Bill and disband his Cabinet as part of efforts to restore political stability.
