This time last year I would not have predicted that Tanzania would be the subject of a damning Amnesty International report about election violence on the part of the state during and immediately after the general elections.
The report joins the efforts by CNN’s team to investigate and gather facts and testimonies about the extent of the casualties. Like the CNN report, Amnesty is quite clear that civilians were on the receiving end of overwhelming hostility on the part of the state and we are still struggling to find out what the actual numbers are when it comes to victims.
