An imported Ebola case in Kenya has placed the busy travel corridor linking the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Uganda and Kenya under heightened health surveillance, highlighting the challenges East African countries face in containing outbreaks in an increasingly mobile region.

Kenya confirmed its first imported case of Ebola after a Kenyan national who had spent seven years in the DRC travelled by road through Uganda before flying to Nairobi, where he was diagnosed with the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus disease.
