Accra has rejected MTN Ghana’s offer of GH¢20 million ($1.78 million) for citizens affected by anti-foreigner attacks in South Africa, saying the state has already budgeted for their evacuation and post-return support.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it had seen reports that the telecommunications company, an affiliate of South African telco MTN, intended to assist Ghanaians returning from South Africa following repatriation from violence.
