In a dramatic escalation of diplomatic tensions, Sudan on Tuesday declared the United Arab Emirates (UAE) “a hostile state” and announced the severing of all ties, including the closure of its embassy and consulate general in the Gulf country.

The development follows the International Court of Justice’s rejection of Sudan’s genocide case against Abu Dhabi amid drone strikes targeting key sites in Port Sudan, which Sudanese authorities allege were supported by the UAE.
