The role of international observers has become a focal point of Tanzania’s upcoming general election, with authorities cracking down on activists monitoring Dodoma’s conduct.

It came this week after the government’s decision to deny activists from neighbouring Kenya entry to the country to attend the high-profile treason trial of the main opposition figure Tundu Lissu.
