Samia Suluhu Hassan is preparing to take her first elected mandate, but this victory comes with a burden of legitimacy, righting the wrongs of the past, calming the storm of an angry Gen Z and a restless Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) rank and file and building the economy.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (Inec) declared her the winner with 97.66 percent of the vote. According to reports, about 32 million of the 36.7 million registered voters participated in the election. Inec began releasing provisional results on Thursday, showing Samia with a commanding lead across multiple constituencies.
