President Samia Suluhu Hassan on Tuesday opened up on her inner feelings about the deadly public unrest that accompanied Tanzania's recent general election, asserting that foreign elements were directly responsible for trying to topple her government.

"Before October 29 Tanzania was famous for being the haven of peace in this region. But it has become obvious that many people outside the country are envious of our reputation and are prepared to do anything to destabilise us," Samia said in a rambling address to Dar es Salaam elders.
