Kigali dismisses rights group claims on DRC deportations to Rwanda
M23 rebels stand guard at the Unite stadium, where captured members of the armed forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC) and Wazalendo troops wait to be taken aboard trucks for training by M23 rebels, in Goma, North Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo on May 10, 2025.
Kigali has dismissed a new Human Rights Watch (HRW) report that alleges the M23 rebel group in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has forcibly deported over 1,500 people to Rwanda.
“The Rwandan government and the M23 should immediately stop forced transfers of Congolese citizens and Rwandan refugees,” HRW said, adding that forcing people out could constitute to a war crime according to the Geneva Conventions.
