Winnie Byanyima, the executive director of UNAIDS and wife of Uganda’s leading opposition politician, Kizza Besigye, has petitioned President Yoweri Museveni directly to ensure justice for her husband.
This was an unusual move for a woman whose knowledge of Museveni and the Ugandan government dates back to the bush days, and who is known for her ‘iron lady’ style.
