Oboth-Oboth elected Speaker as NRM tightens grip on Uganda’s Parliament

Uganda’s ruling party candidate Jacob Oboth-Oboth was on Monday elected Speaker of the country’s 12th Parliament in a landslide victory, reinforcing the National Resistance Movement’s dominance in the legislature.

Chief Justice Flavian Zeija declared the West Budama Central MP winner after he secured 441 votes in a secret ballot at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in the presence of President Yoweri Museveni.
