The East African Legislative Assembly (Eala) wants the Council of Ministers to extend staff contracts for three months pending a Summit decision later in November, to stem a spiralling crisis.

The Assembly is one of the organs most affected by the staff shortage, and has been unable to function properly with fewer than 10 employees, after the Council’s decision to send home staff on short-term contracts last week.
