Kiir’s quid pro quo with Ruto on polls, Dangote refinery

South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has made whirlwind trips to Kenya and South Africa, seeking electoral and economic support as dissent grows at home ahead of the December polls.

A day before flying to Nairobi on Monday, President Kiir imposed a three-month foreign travel ban on military officers, members of organised forces and senior government officials, as he sought regional support for the elections.
