A High Court in Nairobi has suspended a government directive halting the registration of asylum seekers from Ethiopia and Eritrea.

Kenya’s Commissioner for Refugee Affairs suspended the registration of asylum seekers from the two countries in a directive issued on July 31, 2025, and a consortium of NGOs challenged the directive in court, on the grounds of discrimination and violation of Kenya’s obligation under domestic, regional and international law.
