Juba, under arms embargo, tops military spend in East Africa

South Sudan was East Africa’s biggest spender on military hardware in the region in 2024, despite being under an arms embargo.
Data from International Peace Research Institute (Sipri) also ranks Kenya and Uganda among the top military spenders in a region characterised by a complex security landscape, marked by internal conflicts, terrorism, and insurgency.
