How Kenya upended policy on Western Sahara for autonomy plan

Kenya formally opened its embassy in Rabat, Morocco this week. But it was actually a culmination of a series of events that began on the day President William Ruto took office in September 2022, to turn Nairobi from an old policy that backed Western Sahara’s self-determination.
Two Kenyan diplomats confirmed to The EastAfrican that President Ruto backed away from supporting Western Sahara’s independence quest on the day he took office.
