African countries from the region this week fronted a spirited defence of their domestic rights record, even as watchdogs lay blame on authorities for cracking down on the dissent.
Their statements were part of the ongoing 58th UN Human Rights Council session in Geneva, where they responded to mounting international scrutiny over human rights concerns, conflicts, and governance issues.
