As Ugandan troops prepare to join the International Stabilisation Force (ISF) in Gaza, they are heading into a painstaking security operation that will involve securing weapons, dealing with underground military infrastructure and helping clear the way for the gradual transfer of authority to Palestinian civilian institutions.
The operation, according to the ISF commander, Maj Gen Jesper Jeffers, will unfold sector by sector across Gaza, with the international force expected to secure each area, neutralise military infrastructure, and then hand over responsibility to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza and its vetted security forces.
