The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Sudan registered the highest numbers of internally displaced people on the continent, according to the Global Report on Internal Displacement 2026.

Conflict and violence displaced 9.7 million people in the DRC alone in 2025, the country’s highest figure on record and nearly one-third of the global total.
