For years, dinosaur films have been dominated by Jurassic Park. Those movies are brilliant, but they’ve always felt a bit too family-friendly. One or two characters get eaten, there is a chase, the heroes escape. The movies are usually thrilling, with dinosaurs that lean more towards spectacle than threat. What I’ve always fancied is a dinosaur film that captures them as feral wild animals, vicious, unpredictable and lethal. A while back we got Primitive Wars, a war movie that had dinosaurs in it, which almost captured that, but the film was extreme. Now, with The End of Oak Street, I think we might have found something close to a good representation of dinosaurs versus people.
David Robert Mitchell, best known for It Follows, writes, directs, and co-produces this 2026 sci-fi survival thriller. It stars Anne Hathaway, Ewan McGregor, Maisy Stella and Christian Convery as the Platt family. The synopsis, avoiding spoilers: A mysterious cosmic event rips Oak Street from suburbia and transports a neighbourhood to someplace unknown, and dinosaurs show up. In summary, imagine a family trying to survive in a contained world where dinosaurs rule.
