At the corner of 113th Street and St Nicholas Avenue in Harlem, New York, stands Safari Restaurant. The distinctive African eatery offers a refined selection of Somali, Kenyan and East African cuisine, adding to Harlem’s rich cultural tapestry — a historic African American enclave shaped by the Harlem Renaissance, jazz, civil rights activism and a long tradition of celebrated restaurants.

Owners Mona Birjeeb and her husband, Shakib Farah, have built an authentic menu rooted in family recipes, dishes they grew up with, and rare spices and condiments sourced from Somali and Kenyan markets.
