UN warns catastrophic child malnutrition in Darfur

A United Nations agency is raising alarm over a sharp rise in severe acute malnutrition among children in Sudan’s Darfur region, warning that the country is teetering on the brink of famine.
According to newly released data by Unicef, the number of children suffering from severe acute malnutrition in Darfur’s five states surged by 46 percent during the first five months of 2025 compared to the same period last year.
