UN approaches 80 – and a crossroads: Reform without Africa lacks legitimacy

The “UN 80” initiative announced by Secretary-General António Guterres promises to prepare the United Nations for a new era. The stated goal is to make the institution more responsive, integrated and fit for future challenges.

However, behind the language of reform lies a deeper institutional crisis, one driven less by strategic foresight than by executive centralisation and procedural shortcuts.
