The election of 2022 could not have been clearer. On one side were Raila Odinga and Martha Karua. On the other were William Ruto and Rigathi Gachagua. One side represented ideals this country had shed blood for before and after independence — social justice, equity, non-tribalism, and constitutional democracy.
Raila and Martha did not only espouse these ideals; they had suffered for them. Raila was incarcerated many times and tortured during the Moi era for daring to agitate for an end to dictatorship.
