As polls opened in Uganda this past Thursday, I found myself wondering why we, the wretched of this region, are not allowed much respite from these electoral polls.
I mean, our rulers could have consulted among themselves to programme their elections so that they do not come at the heels of each other. They could have agreed among themselves to stagger their elections in such a way that, when these exercises produce results that are overly exciting outcomes, they do not “flow” into each other, making for a generalised sense of apprehension, worry and consternation.
