President Salva Kiir on Monday night announced one of the most sweeping government shake-ups in years, reinstating Dr James Wani Igga as vice-president and dismissing several long-serving ministers, security chiefs, and state officials in a series of decrees read on national television.
The move, seen as part of Kiir’s strategy to tighten control ahead of long-delayed elections expected in 2026, reshapes key power centres across the cabinet, security sector, and Sudan People Liberation Movement party leadership.
