Peter Kibatala, lawyer of Bishop Josephat Gwajima, says the Kawe legislator was not in police custody but “in safe hands” somewhere, weighing up his options after the state closed his church.

“Where he is exactly is not something I can divulge at the moment, for a variety of reasons,” Kibatala told Mwananchi, a Tanzanian Kiswahili newspaper on Wednesday. “Suffice it to say that as of now (Wednesday) he is still a free citizen.”
