The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army-In Opposition (SPLM/A-IO) on Monday condemned plans by South Sudan’s transitional unity government to recognise a splinter faction of the party and sideline First Vice President Riek Machar, who remains under house arrest.

Oyet Nathaniel Pierino, acting chairman of the SPLM/A-IO, criticised Cabinet Affairs Minister Martin Elia Lomuro’s announcement that the government would acknowledge the legitimate SPLM/A-IO faction not allied to Machar in order to advance the implementation of the 2018 revitalised peace agreement.
