Somali pirates release Yemeni vessel after 6 days in captivity
Yemen coast guards stop a fishing boat as they patrol the Gulf of Aden to prevent piracy. The pirates who had seized a Yemeni boat (the Saytuun-2) off the Horn of Africa released it on Sunday.
Suspected Somali pirates have abandoned a Yemeni-flagged fishing boat that was seized last week in the latest attack in the pirate-infested waters off the Somali coast, the European Union Naval Force (Eunavfor) confirmed on Monday.
Eunavfor Atalanta, the EU counter-piracy naval force in the Horn of Africa region, said the vessel, Saytuun-2, was released by the pirates on Sunday. "Right now, the crew is safe and free of movement. The successful cooperation with the Yemeni Coast Guard and Puntland Maritime Police Force, one of the key Somali police forces, is crucial to facing the fight against piracy in the area," Eunavfor Atalanta said in a statement.
