Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan on Thursday dismissed the heads of Dar es Salaam’s troubled metropolitan bus system, amid rising public anger and international criticism of her government’s trampling on civil liberties.
The move followed commuter unrest on Wednesday night, when frustrated passengers attacked buses and vandalised stations after hours of delays at overcrowded terminals. No injuries were reported, but the incident highlighted mounting voter discontent in the commercial capital ahead of the October 29 general election.
