Raila’s grave draws pilgrims as battle for ODM succession heats up
Buola dancers from Gulu, Uganda, perform farewell heroic songs at the grave of the late Raila Odinga at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi in Nyamira, Bondo, on October 20, 2025.
It is only the second week since the remains of former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga were interred at the family’s rural home in western Kenya. But the fresh gravesite is already drawing comparisons to a national shrine, with dignitaries and ordinary people alike flocking there to pay homage.
“This is (perhaps) the most visited grave in the whole world... They are comparing it with the Pope’s grave. We know that more people are still planning to visit the grave,” Ruth Odinga, a sister of the former Prime Minister, was quoted saying in a video clip circulating on social media.
